TULSA, OK (Aug 19, 2021)- Local gym, 99BXing in Tulsa is partnering with the Down Syndrome Association of Tulsa as well as a national non-profit, Down to Box to offer a fitness and boxing program for children and adults with Down syndrome and other intellectual/developmental disabilities. The weekly class will be for teen/adult (ages 16+), the class is catered towards people with Down syndrome. The program is set will run weekly with the adult class on Mondays at 7:10pm and the kids’ class on Saturdays at 10:30am. Last week, four trainers from the gym went through national certification to teach the program and a small demo training class was held. The weekly class consists of high energy, engaging and targeted boxing training which is specifically catered towards individual needs and abilities of the participants.

Down to Box empowers individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing them the tools to gain skills in coordination, self-defense and physical fitness through boxing techniques. The organization was founded upon the demand for boxing and fitness programs for people with disabilities and a lack of gyms who are qualified to work with those with special needs. Down to Box works to change perceptions and create a more inclusive boxing community so everyone has the chance to experience the sport. This is the 12th national location for Down to Box program.
