The DSAT Newsletter Needs a Name.....

DSAT is excited to begin publishing bi-monthly PRINTED NEWSLETTERS. This newsletter will be mailed to parents, grandparents, teachers, therapists, donors, volunteers & friends of DSAT
We want you to receive the latest DSAT information. But we need an accurate mailing list. You can simply update your information by clicking here 
To get DSAT patrons involved, we are having a newsletter naming contest untilJune 21st.  Please submit any ideas for the name of our newsletter and if your idea is chosen, you will win a DSAT SWAG bag!
We also want to encourage you to submit any articles, stories or events to our newsletter.  You can submit them to at anytime.  We are looking for articles related to Down syndrome research, legislation, technology and highlights on the lives of individuals with Down syndrome.   
DSAT's Night at the Office

Informative Workshops on Tuesday Evenings


The DSAT office space is the perfect location for smaller, topic specific workshops to meet our members needs. We planned a series of workshops to meet on Tuesday evenings. These workshops will be held from 6:00-8:00pm at the DSAT office located 1831 E 71st Street, Suite 138.  Below is a list of current workshops Through August. Tuesday, June 17th - Carolyn Cantwell, a DSAT board member and a special education teacher at Jenks Public Schools will do a workshop on Creating Social Stories. A Social Story describes a situation,  life skill, or concept in terms of relevant social cues, perspectives, and common responses in a specifically defined style and format. She will help individualize for your individual needs and for several situations.   


Tuesday, July 22nd- Sarah Koehling,a  DSAT board member and a Speech Language Pathologist will present Technology Ideas & Apps that are beneficial for individuals with special needs. If you have a tablet, smart phone or other technology, please bring it to the workshop.  


Tuesday, August 5th- Kim Wofford, a DSAT board member and a Sooner Start representative, will do a workshop on making All About Me Books These books are perfect for back to school and can be given to teachers, therapists, babysitters to familiarize them with your family member. Please bring your laptop if you have one along with recent digital pictures. 



T21 GOLF TOURNAMENT- June 16th, Meadowbrook Country Club 

The 4th Annual T21 Golf Tournament will be June 16th at Meadowbrook Country Club. We will have an 18-hole tournament, silent auction, golf prizes, lunch, a golf clinic & swimming for DSAT Families.

We will have our annual baseball outing on Sunday, June 29th at the 2:05pmDrillers game.  Registration for this event will be emailed separately to our DSATfamilies.
National Down Syndrome Congress Convention- July 11-13 in Indianapolis

Registration is now open for the National Convention!  Hotels room fill up VERY QUICKLY so make sure and reservations soon.  They are already filling up.  For more information about the conference go to here


DSAT has created a new DSAT Discussion Page on Facebook.  This is for members of DSAT and is a great tool for our members to be able to connect and ask questions about the day-to-day issues we encounter having a family member with Down Syndrome.  This is a closed group.  Please make sure you have asked to join this page so you don't miss out on important information. We will be posting  events that are DSAT FAMILIES ONLY to this page. Search DSAT DISCUSSION GROUP on Facebook and ask to join. 



DSAT is happy to announce the launch of a public Facebook Page.  This page will be used to promote Down syndrome awareness & the mission of DSAT.  It will be a great tool for the community, donors & volunteers to keep us with all things DSAT. This page is a great resource for grandparents, teachers, therapists & friends of individuals with Down syndrome.  So go 'like' the new page (click on logo) and invite your friends to like us too!  

DSAT now has the room in our office to officially have a Lending Library.  We want these materials in our library to be available to the public.  We hope that teachers, therapists, grandparents, families within DSAT and many more will utilize this library.  We are asking any families that have materials that they are no longer using to please consider donating them to our library. We would like any DVDS, books, conference compediums from 2012 to present.

COMMUNITY GROUPS!   The dates are set and we will be posting details on our DSAT Discussion Group page as the dates get closer to the event date. If you know someone in DSAT that is in this age group, please share this information.

NEW FAMILY BREAKFASTS for our families that have children with Down Syndrome from a prenatal diagnosis until 3 years of age.  This is the time where these families can connect and get to know each other and exchange valuable information. DSAT will provide breakfast. Siblings may attend as well. There will be a playground that is connected to the gym that these siblings and kids can utilize while families fellowship.  These will all take place at New Haven UMC located at 5603 S New Haven, Tulsa  from 9:00-11:00am in the gym/playground on the Saturday mornings listed below.  Please RSVP to the week before so we can plan on food.  If you have any questions, contact

Oklahoma Parents Center will present on the services that they offer to our families free of charge.  There are many programs available in the state of Oklahoma for individuals of all ages.

January 24, 2015: All Day Puberty Workshop Presented by Terri Couwenhoven.You do not want to miss this workshop. DSAT has partnered with Autism Center of Tulsa to bring you & your family a nationally known speaker. Ms. Couwenhoven will present a frank, honest & open discussion about puberty & sexuality in individuals with special needs. This information has never been presented in Tulsa & we encourage you to mark your calendars now to make sure you can attend.
